We found a gooseberry bush growing in our garden.

So we waited until the berries were ripe and then we picked them. The flesh was taut, and the berries were warm in the sun, and translucent, with the late afternoon sun behind them. I tried one, knowing it would be too tart to like, but it was sweet, so we ate them all. No pie.
